Floridians Protecting Freedom statement on anniversary of Dobbs decision
Loss of federal protections under Roe highlights urgent need to end government interference in personal health care decisions
TALLAHASSEE – Today marks 2 years since the Dobbs v. Jackson US Supreme Court decision, triggering a slurry of abortion bans across the country since then. Lauren Brenzel, Campaign Director for Yes On 4, the campaign working to restore abortion access in Florida in 2024, released the following statement:
“We started planning our initiative to limit government interference with abortion after the overturning of Roe v. Wade on June 24th, 2022 because we read the writing on the wall. Since that time, we’ve seen exactly what we feared would happen come to pass. Florida now has an extreme abortion ban that bans most abortions before women even realize they are pregnant, with no real exceptions.
“Everyone should have the freedom to make their own personal health care decisions without interference from politicians. The Dobbs decision that overturned Roe sent these decisions back to the states to decide. And that’s just what Amendment 4 does. The amendment to limit government interference with abortion will put these decisions back where they belong, in the hands of Florida families and their doctors, not politicians. As we look back over the last 2 years, the need to restore these freedoms has never been greater.
“Floridians will have a very important choice in November, to uphold the extreme, near-total abortion ban for generations, or vote Yes on 4 to limit political interference in our private medical decisions!”
