Floridians Protecting Freedom: We Urge All to Watch the Outcome of Financial Impact Estimating Conference Today

TALLAHASSEE – Today, the Financial Impact Estimating Conference (FIEC) will reconvene for a third week in a row to hopefully finalize an updated financial impact statement to accompany Amendment 4 that would limit government interference with abortion in Florida. Floridians Protecting Freedom’s Yes on 4 campaign staff will be present at the hearing and available to the press.

“We urge the public to pay attention and bear witness to this important bureaucratic governmental process that determines whether or not voters receive accurate information about the financial impact of Amendment 4 on their ballot this November. We worked hard to ensure that the language of our initiative met constitutional standards. The standards for the State’s financial analysis are no different– the financial impact statement to accompany Amendment 4 should be lawfully accurate, unambiguous, straightforward, clear, and transparent,” said Natasha Sutherland, Communications Director for Yes on 4.

We believed that the redrafting of the financial impact statement was a simple administrative fix. The financial impact estimating conference already completed an analysis of the current near-total abortion ban last year. That analysis found that the passage of Amendment 4 would have a positive financial impact because it would end the current ban that harms Floridians. The campaign is simply seeking a conclusion to this current revision process that accurately and unambiguously reflects that analysis.

“Whatever happens with the financial impact statement, we remind Florida voters that it does not change the simple fact that they will have two clear choices this November– to maintain Florida’s extreme, near-total abortion ban before many women realize they’re pregnant, with no real exceptions, or to pass Amendment 4 to limit government interference with abortion,” Natasha Sutherland added.
