The Yes on 4 Campaign Releases New Campaign Video Featuring a Florida Couple Not Granted Exception for Fetal Abnormality
Titled “Deborah and Lee,” the ad highlights the trauma Florida’s extreme abortion ban is causing, including forcing the birth of a child that everyone knew was not going to survive
FLORIDA – Floridians Protecting Freedom released a new ad today featuring Deborah and Lee, a couple from Lakeland Florida. The ad recounts their harrowing experience under Florida’s extreme abortion ban that forced Deborah to continue a painful pregnancy, carry her child from 23 weeks to 37 weeks, and give birth, knowing her son would die 92 minutes later.
“The government and its cruel abortion ban, forced me to carry my son and give birth, knowing he wouldn’t survive. That pain and helplessness—it’s something no one should ever have to endure. This ban is torture, and I believe women should be free to make the right decisions for their families. That’s why we must all Vote Yes on Amendment 4 to make sure no other family has to go through the nightmare we did,” said Deborah.
“As a husband, my instinct is to protect my family, but with Florida’s abortion ban, I was powerless to do that. Watching my wife go through unbearable pain, knowing there was nothing I could do to stop it was the most helpless and frustrating experience of my life. Explaining to our toddler that his mom was going into labor but we wouldn’t be coming home with his baby brother was an unbearable type of heartbreak. No family should be forced to suffer like we did. That’s why I’m voting yes on Amendment 4,” said Lee.
This message is a powerful reminder that the government has no right to interfere in your family’s medical decisions. You can watch “Deborah and Lee ” – which began airing today – here and view the transcription below. With just five weeks until Election Day, Deborah and Lee’s voices are a crucial reminder of what’s at stake in this election. Voting Yes on 4 is the only way to keep medical decisions where they belong: between the patients, their family, and their doctors.
AD TRANSCRIPT
DEBORAH: I remember the doctor…
Handing me a baby boy… that was blue…
And I just held him, cause he was so cold…
DEBORAH: Due to the abortion ban,
I was being forced to carry the baby from 23 weeks…
All the way to 37 weeks… and knowing that my son was going to die.
LEE: Having to watch your wife be in pain…
And continue to tell her to keep going…
That everything was going to be okay… Knowing it’s not.
That was the hardest thing.
DEBORAH: Government had no right to do that to my family.
DEBORAH: This ban… Is torture.
