Abortion amendment on track
Campaign is on track to surpass total needed for qualifying ahead of Feb. 1 deadline
SARASOTA – Floridians Protecting Freedom, the campaign to put abortion access on the 2024 ballot in Florida, is pushing forward in the effort to collect the petitions necessary to get abortion on the ballot in 2024. As of today’s update, the Florida Division of Elections has verified 753,306 petitions submitted by the campaign out of the 891,523 needed by February 1, 2024.
“When we launched on May 8, our goal was to gather the close to 900,000 verified petitions needed to qualify for the 2024 ballot by the end of the year. Knowing not every petition would be validated, we’ve always planned to collect as many petitions as we could during the short timeframe allotted so there could be no question whether we had enough valid signatures to qualify,” said Campaign Director Lauren Brenzel. “I am thrilled to report that we’re surpassing internal goals and are using this time to make sure all voters in Florida, and especially those in priority congressional districts, have their voices heard. We will continue to collect and submit signatures to the Division of Elections until we’re sure we’ve qualified in every congressional district necessary and they provide us with official notification we will be on the 2024 ballot.”
So far, out of seven states that have voted on abortion access since Roe v. Wade was overturned, all seven have affirmed support, including conservative states like Kansas, Kentucky, and most recently Ohio. States like Florida and Arizona are poised to follow suit in 2024.
