Floridians Protecting Freedom closes in on requirement for 2024 ballot with 621,664 petitions verified by the state

SARASOTA – Floridians Protecting Freedom, the campaign to put abortion access on the 2024 ballot in Florida, is approaching a crucial milestone in the effort to give voters the chance to limit government interference in personal medical decisions once and for all. As of today’s update, the Florida Division of Elections has verified 621,664 petitions submitted by the campaign out of the 891,523 needed by February 1, 2024, with 200,000 of those having come from volunteers. This represents a significant increase from the 492,295 verified as of last month and is an indicator of the campaign’s momentum.

“Today’s update shows that thanks to the amazing work of our partners, allies, staff, and volunteers from throughout the state, we are poised to meet the threshold necessary to make the ballot in 2024,” said Campaign Director Lauren Brenzel. “Even with the updated total of verified signatures, our internal count is still significantly higher than what you’re seeing on the Division of Elections website, and we are very confident we will meet the deadline to have the required number of verified petitions to qualify for next year’s ballot. That said, we haven’t reached the finish line yet and are still urging Floridians from across the state to go to FloridiansProtectingFreedom.com, download, sign and submit their petition.”

A University of North Florida poll released this week found 62% of Floridians indicating support for the amendment, more than enough for passage. The poll also showed the initiative receiving majority support across gender, racial, generational, and party lines.
