Floridians Protecting Freedom Statement Ahead of Women’s Equality Day

TALLAHASSEE – Tomorrow, August 26th, marks Women’s Equality Day. Lauren Brenzel, Campaign Director for Floridians Protecting Freedom, the committee working to put abortion access on Florida’s ballot in 2024, released the following statement:

“As we commemorate Women’s Equality Day, it’s important to point out how Florida’s abortion ban denies pregnant women the freedom not just to access essential reproductive health care, but to control their own bodies. Florida’s abortion ban has caused women to travel out of state for care or be forced to continue their pregnancies against their will.

“Currently Florida’s 15-week abortion ban is awaiting a court ruling which could trigger a ban at six weeks – before many women even realize they are pregnant, so in effect a near total abortion ban. This Women’s Equality Day, it is striking that South Carolina just ruled in favor of a six-week abortion ban even though the court had previously struck down a similar law. What changed? South Carolina now has the only all-male state Supreme Court in the country.

“Our campaign stands with Florida women who fight for equality every single day, and we will not rest until every woman in this state has the freedom to make private health care decisions without politicians intruding into their personal lives.”
